Claims Recovery Specialist

Responsible for achieving company goals for the recovery of claims overpayments by performing claims quality assurance audits to measure the accuracy & completeness of claims overpayments submitted to the Recovery Department from the QCT & R Auditors, CRU, & the Account Management Team. Also responsible for communicating w/ providers & participating in negotiations for recoveries. Essential Functions: - Works independently w/ assigned groups of providers to recover claims overpayments identified by various audit groups. - Performs separate jurisdictional screening & quality review of overpayments received from the various audit groups to identify claims that are not recoverable due to state/federal rules & regulations or other reasons; prepares reports of findings. - Works closely w/ Recovery Supervisor to facilitate quality improvement w/in the Department. - Enters scrubbed claims overpayment spreadsheets into the Claims Administration Recovery System database (CARS). - Presents findings in inter- departmental meetings to representatives from Provider Relations, Contracting & the Legal departments. - Prepares & sends recovery letters to providers along w/ spreadsheets of the details supporting the recovery request. - Participates in negotiations & communicates w/ providers to follow-up the recovery letters. - Works w/ providers to further explain the identified overpayments & reconcile the KP position w/ the provider’s position in order to gain acceptance of the overpayments. - Maintains a tracking tool of recovery progress; prepares weekly & monthly reports for management. - Performs root cause analysis & proposes appropriate “corrective actions” to eliminate claims overpayments. - Writes & communicates desk level procedures as appropriate. - Performs special projects, reconciliations, research & analysis relating to quality claims processing improvements. - Attends inter-departmental meetings as deemed necessary. - Performs other duties as directed. Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: - 5 years of claims processing experience required. - 1 year of quality assurance &/or medical claims auditing experience required. - Bachelor’s degree in business/accounting or equivalent relevant work experience required. Preferred Qualifications: - 2 to 3 years of experience in training &/or audit learning preferred.
